Huawei Unveils Ultra-Light MateBook Pro S Starting at $1,100, Powered by New Kirin XE90 Chip
Huawei has launched its groundbreaking 14.2-inch all-metal ultraportable notebook, the MateBook Pro S, which sets a new industry benchmark with a mere 798g weight and 11.9mm thickness. The device adopts Huawei’s proprietary Cloud Falcon lightweight architecture to slash mass across materials, internal layouts and cooling hardware.

Its chassis debuts vacuum-sputtered magnesium-lithium alloy, cutting body weight by 25% over standard magnesium alloys. Paired with an innovative mortise-and-tenon integrated manufacturing process, the laptop has zero visible external screws while boosting structural deformation resistance by 500%. Cooling relies on an ultra-slim 3mm aluminum radiator with industry-first 3D stepped fan blades, enabling sustained 20W performance output within its thin frame alongside a compact three-stage mainboard and slim pressure trackpad.

At its core sits the new Kirin XE90 high-efficiency PC processor, delivering 23% stronger single-core performance, 25% improved energy efficiency and 40% higher NPU compute versus the Kirin X90. It supports local on-device AI processing and hardware ray tracing, locked to steady 20W sustained power. The Ark Engine software suite accelerates daily workflows: 30% faster 1GB presentation loading, 25% quicker decompression for 2.5GB files, and 20% speed gains for spreadsheet calculations.

Powered by a 54Wh high-silicon anode battery (10% silicon content), the cell raises energy density by 15% and cuts its own weight by 10%, paired with a super charge pump power system to deliver up to 18 hours of local 1080p video playback. Dual full-function USB-C ports support bidirectional 66W super fast charging, compatible with SCP, UFCS and PD protocols; just 5 minutes of charging delivers 1 hour of office runtime, plus reverse charging for phones, tablets and earbuds.

This is the world’s first ultraportable laptop equipped with a 4-antenna Wi-Fi 7+ array, supporting stable connectivity at distances up to 1 kilometer with high bandwidth and low interference. It integrates a built-in 4-antenna 5G module for standalone outdoor networking, alongside Starlink audio transmission hitting a peak 4.6Mbps bitrate with dual-band adaptive switching.

The 14.2-inch 3120×2080 3.1K 3:2 OLED touchscreen covers full P3 color gamut with ΔE<1 color accuracy, hitting 1000 nits global peak brightness and 1600 nits local peak brightness. It features a 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming system and 16,384-level dual ambient light auto-brightness, with full touch input. The optional privacy variant adds a proprietary Smart Shield anti-peep optical layer with unique single-zone dual-pixel design, preserving full resolution, color and brightness when toggling between shared and private viewing modes with zero software power draw.

Other privacy and productivity hardware includes a pop-up HD webcam with physical shutter and fingerprint power combo key. It ships pre-installed with HarmonyOS PC built around the on-device Pangu Large Model, supporting real-time meeting transcription, long-document summarization, cross-library multi-file search, AI graphic generation and photo retouching. The Super Terminal ecosystem enables seamless multi-screen collaboration, cross-device clipboard sharing, file drag-and-drop, app cross-device streaming and Huawei Share high-speed transfers, backed by a hardware encryption chip for end-to-end document security.
